Tell me what you think

Since returning home from the retreat, I have been mulling over a whole bunch of things in my mind. I have a lot of opinions and convictions of my own, but really I want to know what other Christians out there think. I would ask you please read the following scriptures and then my questions below them.

"Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth." Psalm 127:4

"Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate."
(Psalms 127:3-5 ESV)

"He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the LORD!"
Psalms 113:9

"And God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living animal that moveth upon the earth." Genesis 1:28

"And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth" Genesis 9:1

"As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it. " Genesis 9:7

"I will bless her and surely give you a son by her.I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her." Genesis 17:16

"And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren." Genesis 29:31

"And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived." Genesis 25:21

"Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee, and by the Almighty, who shall bless the with blessigns of heaven above, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:" Genesis 49:25

"And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also." Genesis 38:9-10

Is it okay to limit the size of our families?

Does using birth control line up with God's word? Is there scripture showing that it is okay to use it?

What does God feel about vasectomies and tubal ligations?

How do we know what is right when the church does not address this subject?

What are your thoughts on hormonal birth control being an abortifacient? (causes early term abortions)

In a culture where smaller families are the norm, is it impossible to have a large family?

Family size is considered a personal choice, but where does God fit into that? What is His choice for us?

If you use birth control or have had a vasectomy or tubal, how did you come to this decision? Was it through prayer? Did you feel God gave His blessing to do so? Do you regret it? What do you think God feels about it?

Why has it become the norm, even in the church (pastors and church leaders as well) to limit family size to two or three children? Money? Culture? Pressure from society?

Do you desire more children, but your spouse does not? Or vice versa? How do you handle this?

If you lived in a remote country where birth control was not accessible, what would you do?

What do you think about people who allow God to plan their family? Are they irresponsible? Wise? Foolish?

What if you unexpectedly became pregnant? Would you consider it a mistake? An act of God? Would you be angry? Happy?

What do you think about people who feel that preventing pregnancy is sin?

Why would God want Christians to have children?

You do not need to answer all of the questions. You can answer one, or multiple questions. They are just things I am grappling with myself and would like to hear some other Christians view points.

I would ask that any answers given would be kept loving, edifying, and civil. I am not yet ready to share my thoughts as I am conflicted in several areas, but I am eager to hear yours. Any rude or harsh comments will not be published.

Let the discussion begin!
